Notes from Me on the 3AM CEO Pitch

Why I Get Up at 3AM

When my boy Jaxxon was born about a year and a half ago, my sleep schedule went out the window. Newborns don’t care if you’re a CEO or a founder — they wake when they wake. If I got up at 2 or 3AM to take care of the baby, I usually couldn’t fall back asleep. So instead of fighting it, I stayed up and started working.

What surprised me was how productive those hours were. That “middle of the night” time turned into my best window of focus. Over time, it became less of an accident and more of a habit, then a ritual, and now a cornerstone of how I operate.

These days, I tend to go to bed when my child does, and I wake up much earlier than most people. That disrupted sleep schedule turned into one of the most productive features of my life.

The Mindset

I’ve always lived by Mark Cuban’s idea that you’ve got to work like there’s somebody out there working harder than you. I may not always be the smartest in the room, but I will always be the hardest working.

Waking up at 3AM gives me the edge I need. It’s where I can focus, learn, and build without distractions.

What I Do at 3AM

This is not just “extra work.” It’s my time for:

  • Learning new skill sets. Technology evolves daily, and I refuse to be left behind.
  • Building projects. I’ve created over 100 repositories in my GitHub — a constant cycle of building, testing, and improving.
  • Applying AI in healthcare. From analytics to clinical workflows, I use these hours to prototype solutions that make Nimbus — and healthcare as a whole — more efficient.

It’s the build-measure-learn loop (from Eric Ries) in practice: build something, test it, learn, and build again.

Tools That Changed the Game

I use IDEs like Cursor and Lovable, which let me code in Python and JavaScript without needing to know every nuance of the languages. These tools are game changers — they let subject matter experts like me bring ideas to life without being overly dependent on engineering teams.

We’re living in a phenomenal time where industry experts can build directly. I encourage everyone to take advantage of this. If you don’t, you’ll get left behind. The barrier to entry has never been lower, but it still takes a willingness to learn the basics and put in the time.

From No-Code to Advanced AI Systems

In less than a year of being self-taught, I’ve gotten to the point where I can build projects faster than my own engineering team. The difference is speed — I don’t need to wait for approvals, lengthy discussions, or detailed PRDs. If I have an idea, I just build the prototype with real logic and interactivity and then hand it off to engineering to scale. That shift alone has saved us enormous amounts of time.

I’ve gone from using simple no-code tools to now working with advanced systems like LangSmith and LangChain. With them, I’m building multi-agent architectures that can orchestrate at a high capacity, delivering everything from business analytics to clinical outcomes. It’s fascinating what’s possible. Honestly, it feels like every week there’s a new revelation in the tools that are coming out.

Fatherhood, Leadership, and Resilience

This routine is about more than productivity. Fatherhood and startup life together have made me more empathetic as a leader and more resilient as a founder. They’ve taught me to be intentional with every hour.

I’ve had two failed startups before Nimbus. Those experiences taught me persistence and perspective. Today, Nimbus is growing because I didn’t stop at failure — I learned, adapted, and kept going.

Why It Matters

Industries, especially healthcare, cannot afford to ignore AI and modern development tools. The ones who experiment and learn now will shape the future. The ones who don’t will be left behind.

For me, 3AM is when I shape that future. It’s when I combine my curiosity, my grit, and my vision for healthcare into real experiments and real progress.

Closing Thought

I may not always be the smartest in the room, but I’ll always be the hardest working. That’s why I code at 3AM.

A founder's journey from sleepless nights with a newborn to becoming a self-taught AI developer who builds faster than his own engineering team — all starting at 3AM.
